Mystery solved

Okay so I want to share something that for about two years has alluded me as a mystery illness and caused quite some embarrassment for me and even quite a few missed days of work.

It all started when I started this healthy living/diet kick ( which was alarming) and I went to three different doctors for it, very frustrating with this painful and very obvious issue I was having.

I would post pictures but it’s so horrible that if you would like to see them I’ll email them to you upon request bc they are to embarrassing to post

So it all started two years ago ( when I was unknowingly pregnant) as oddly enough I’ve never had this issue before I got pregnate. But I woke up with swollen lips. The were Huge! Two days before they started to feel chapped. I thought nothing of it as my chapped lips usually heal very quickly without any attention to the problem, but this time they felt like they exploded! They were chapped, itchy, swollen, and just a nightmare all together to deal with. Needless to say I flipped on the guy I was with thinking he had possible given me something, as he had also had chapped lips several days before me. He assured me that wasn’t the case and told me to go to the Dr to get it all figured out. So I go like a day later, I being the blunt person I am ask, IS IT HERPES !?!? With a horrified look on my face fearing and expecting the worse. He kinda laughed and said no I don’t think so it looks like A burn. Did you burn yourself or have you been in the sun? No I responded. Well then, he said, your having an allergic reaction to something do you have any allegies? I was like well no, not that I know of; well except the antibiotic bactrum that I have not taken In weeks. He asked me if I’d eaten an nuts (typical allergy foods) I was like no just some mangoes is the only thing out of the ordinary. And he was like ah ha! You have a citrus allergy. I was kinda skeptical since no testing was done but I was like alright I’ll just stay away fro. Mangoes because I know for a fact that other “citrus” has no ill effect on me. So I go on for almost another year no problems. I had some minor chapped lip issues (later attributed to copious amounts of raw tomatoes I craved while being pregnate) but nothing like the mangos reaction. Then around my birthday I wake up with swollen itchy lips. I had been doing a Candida elimination  diet so I thought maybe that was the problem. I waited that one out and used coconut oil for relief. Then when I got fired from my job I went and used all my insurance I had paid for, at the doctor. I showed him the pictures of my lips, which at that time were normal, because picture evidence was all I had of this incident that kept occurring. I mentioned I thought that it could be Candida, he thought I was crazy and that there would be no way I had thrush, Candida of the mouth, unless I had cancer or AIDS or something like that. In which he tested my blood and everything came back negative, no STDs no aids, all normal blood work except low vitamin D. I mentioned that I had gone to the doctor before and he diagnosed it as an allergic reaction to citrus and had also ruled out herpes. He said for sure it wasn’t herpes and wasn’t Candida that it was probably staph or allergic reaction to something;  and that I needed to come back in to have it tested as soon as it flared up again. Now I am particularly like the dr. had insinuated that I was crazy, So once I got my blood work results I decided to go to a different doctor when and if this happened again. About another six months goes by nothing out of the normal and then all the sudden again another really really bad flareup. I am devastated can’t really figure out why it keeps happening. I had made a citrus bowl but no mango in it. So I decide to go to the doctor and have them take swabs and send it to the lab for testing. Now when I go in the nurse practitioner immediately says oh it’s herpes freaking me the F out considering I had already had blood work done proving that the wasn’t the case and that both doctors before her had said it was definitely not herpes. She immediately tries to prescribe me medication for the virus. Now me being the scientifically minded person that I am said wait a second I’ve already been tested for that and it was negative so can you please just take a skin scrape and send it to the lab and let me know if this is possibly staph or another type of bacteria. She actually refused to take the skin scrape and said that she knew exactly what it was and that she was prescribing the medication.  I again refused the medication and insisted on the skin scrape. So she’s seeing that I would not budge on my decision left the room and got a regular skin scrape and then a specific skin scrape for herpes. I paid around $180 for this entire visit and was told I would have the results in a week. The week goes by I call for my results and they’re at lunch. I call back when lunch is over straight to voicemail. I call back several days later still no answer. I think OK no big deal they’re busy i’ll go up in person since I’ll be in the area to get my results. When I go in there are no results or any records of me being there. Me thinking this is very strange trying  to figure out what’s going. They finally get back to me after they have already closed and I have waited several hours in the waiting room say that the labs after I suggested calling them for more results said they had never received anything in the first place. So the doctor blamed the lab in the lab claim to have never gotten anything so we conclusion was the carrier person lost the results. Sits at that point it had already been two weeks and my lips were completely healed and no scrape could be taken again. And if this was what I thought it was which was a bacterial infection of stuff I needed them to take another scrape. So me beingunhappy that two years down the road I still can’t figure out this mystery illness ask for a refund of the money I paid and they told me to come back in as soon as it flares up again. So then a couple days ago my boyfriend gets poisoned oak (he works outside) I do some research on some things I can help relieve his itching. And I come across this:

Reading this I think oh my gosh those are all the things I ate when I had this crazy lip reaction. My mom had just given me some homemade cashew butter. So to test this theory I ate a little bit and then  made chai pudding with some of the butter in it and ate it. And lo and behold next morning woke up slightly swollen lips slightly itchy the onsets of the normal Lip reaction.

Also NO DOCTOR SHOULD EVER DIAGNOSE HERPES WITHOUT TESTING IT, you obviously don’t know the difference between herpes and an allergic reaction and it’s a very upsetting diagnosis especially if it’s untrue it could cause problems in people’s relationships

Raw apple pie

Ingredients

1 Raw Apple Pie Crust, recipe follows
3 apples, peeled and cored
1/2 teaspoon sea salt
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
3 dates, soaked for 1 hour and then drained
1/2 tablespoon vanilla powder
1/2 cup raisins
2 tablespoons flax seeds, ground

Directions

Prepare the pie crust according the recipe and press into a 9-inch pie plate. Place 1/3 of the apples and all the salt, cinnamon, dates, and vanilla powder in a food processor. Process the mixture until it is almost the consistency of applesauce. Continue adding apples, processing only until apples are chopped into small to medium sized pieces. Add raisins to the mixing bowl. Stir in ground flax seeds, mix well, and set aside for 15 minutes. The raisins and flax seeds will soak up the juice from the apples. Pour the apple mixture into the prepared pie crust.

Place almonds in a food processor and process until mixture resembles flour. Add salt and vanilla powder to the almonds and process well. Add pecans, walnuts, and dates to the food processor and process just until combined. Press the mixture into a 9-inch glass pie pan. The crust may be made ahead of time and refrigerated or frozen.

Hemp Pesto (raw, vegan, gluten and soy free)

Yields approx 1 1/3 cup

1 cup shelled hemp seeds
2 tightly packed cups of fresh basil
1/2 tsp salt
Freshly ground black pepper
2 tbsp lemon juice
1 clove garlic, minced (2 cloves if you’re a garlic fan)
2/3 cup water
2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil

1) Place hemp seeds in a food processor fitted with the S blade. Grind till they’re powdery.

2) Add basil and pulse to combine well.

3) Add salt, pepper, lemon, garlic, and pulse again.

4) With the motor running, add water in a thin stream, as if you were making a nut pate. Stop once in a while to scrape the bowl. Keep adding water until the pesto is still quite thick, but not pasty.

5) Keep motor running, and finish the pesto by drizzling in the 2 tbsp EVOO. This isn’t necessary, but it’ll give the pesto a more traditional mouthfeel and flavor!

The Transformation

This Blog is about the Transformation of my lifestyle From an extremely Unhealthy Degenerative lifestyle to a Healthy Thriving lifestyle:
Mainly my journey from the SAD (Standard American Diet) to a RAD (Raw american Diet), which is a¬†Healthy Primarily Raw Vegan Diet, my Yoga and¬†Mediation process, and the other improvements I am making in my life and lifestyle to change from Surviving to Thriving, while maintaining the art of Balance and keeping Life’s problems in check ūüôā

Just an F.Y.I you are also probably going to get a lot of my life story, just a warning, this is Real talk no B.S. So be prepared, and sorry if my life is too real for your taste, but I refuse to censor it….

I am making this blog to hold myself accountable to this lifestyle change, so lets hope this works…..
I am also going to eventually write this all into a book so this is kinda like my rough draft/ brainstorming/ idea’s smorgasbord ūüôā So hopefully it will be somewhat coherent… though I wont guarantee¬†it!

Your jumping into my story in the middle of the change, I’m already seeing major health benefits from this type of lifestyle and these uncooked eating habits. Like no caffeine needed for energy, seriously¬†I¬†will never need it again. The mental clarity I experience on a daily basis is more¬†than ever before in my life! ¬†The only reason I promote this lifestyle is because of the results I am personally getting, going from being sick all the time and in constant pain to finally feeling like myself again and getting back into training.

I still cheat and mess up all the time! I also still eat meat sometimes! Its totally okay it’s part of the process of changing, you can’t always get it perfect right away (though now I always feel gross after going back to the other food & sometimes it makes me sick). For example I¬†cut dairy out completely for months, had coupons for free pizza’s and every time I¬†ate the pizza, though it tasted delicious at the time, I got very digestively sick every time i ate it, meaning it did not pass through normally and w/o discomfort.
Also I am a Chocoholic- Seriously ask anyone who knows me, I go great distances and far lengths for chocolate…
This diet is helping immensely with the cravings
I still eat chocolate though, now i just try to eat the real stuff or make my own and eat it much less often
Seriously I was the worst offender, we are talking everyday even multiple times a day, I was always desperate for more chocolate….
Its amazing I’m not (or just don’t know it yet) diabetic,¬†or even just the fattest person ever with the sheer amount of chocolate I have consumed in my lifetime ( I seriously think its close to 50% of my overall lifetime diet…. I know that seems impossible but I honestly don’t feel like I’m exaggerating that percentage at all) As a kid I¬†would eat a whole box of little Debbie’s in one night
So what brought on this Motivation to finally change for good you ask?

  • A Heartbreaking experience leading to a terrible break up (Actually I¬†had quite a few of those, but one in particular was the catalyst)
  • Constantly fatigued with no energy or motivation (I’m only 23 and had been feeling this way since i was around 15)
  • Constant and Reoccurring Health problems
  • Anger issues and issues with my past and the¬†lifestyle my past had helped me create
  • Having my freedom taken away from me
  • And just being so extremely unhappy and depressed with my life in general, going from following my dreams¬†to just barely surviving and getting by, when I¬†felt I should be much farther in life than where I was at the current moment… and constantly beating myself up for all my failures and underachieved or missed accomplishments… always feeling like i was falling so far behind in life..

Now some of my lifestyle and food history for you:
Grew up eating mostly High Sugar, Artificially Flavored and Colored, Highly processed and fried foods diet; Lots of Fast Food, mostly off the dollar menu because we were always too poor for the real menu; Cheeseburgers, Fries, and Soda (almost always Dr. Pepper) multiple times a week, then in high school almost every day (I seriously should have been the fattest kid alive I guess being nutrient deficient and athletic all my life saved me from the fat/obesity plague most of society and now an alarming amount of youth are facing) I hated Cafeteria food though it was always so gross, looked and tasted even worse and more fake than fast food, and my parents didn’t send me with food so it was either eat the schools food (b/c i was on free lunch’s most of my life) or buy my own (which once i turned 15 i went and got a job and did just that, unfortunately i didn’t know how unhealthy fast food was back then and had been living off it all my life i was pretty helplessly addicted, craved it over almost anything else (except chocolate ūüėČ ¬†Until I saw Super size Me in my health class my senior year my old soccer coach was the teacher and showed us the film in class. I was like HOLY SHIT THATS ME I EAT THAT SHIT EVERYDAY! Believe it or not it still didn’t change me until i got really really sick and did my own research on food and the food industry) Lot’s of those microwave T.V. Dinners either kid cuisine when we begged for it but usually those terribly cheap and disgusting ones like night hawk? i think they were called and there were a few other brands always 50 cents to $1 a dinner just whatever was cheapest was usually what got bought. My mother was Addicted to Coca Cola though, so we always had lots of soda in the house, Coke for her, anything brightly colored for my little brother, and I’ve always been loyal to the Dr. so never a shortage on soda, and anything clear for my Dad so he could mix it with his Vodka…

On the flip side of the terrible diet though I was always fairly active, involved in several different sports such as soccer, basketball, and motocross. So I was always pretty fit growing up, never fat by any means, but all this wear and tear on my body and no nutrients going back into my body to build it back up really took its toll on my overall health and my joints and muscles always ached. Also being a motocross rider I had several really bad crashes that could have killed me and broke a couple bones (in my foot and ribs) and also really messed up my back and neck (as one time i fell from almost 15ft in the air onto my neck it was pretty brutal and I never even got it looked at)
So from my experience exercise will definitely keep you from becoming obese, but it will not save you from the poison you put into your body, as it cannot build properly functioning cells out of nothing. Your body will start to degrade as mine did, in which the health problems just skyrocketed from there
(and i have had quite a fair share of health issues (viruses, bacterial infections, staff, kidney stones, U.I. tract problems, candida, tendentious, arthritis, Joint pain, shooting pains, Heart palpitations, all reoccurring issues for me)
As a child I was always Vaccinated, put on antibiotics and other medications, eventually prescribed¬†psychotropic drugs in high school for my poor diet symptoms of anxiety and depression (which later led to even bigger health issues) but ill get into that whole subject in another post….

Back on track:

Lifestyle Changes I’ve made So far:

  • I refuse to¬†spend money on Fast food (I still go to restaurants (hardly ever usually only with friends)¬†sometimes but no drive thru’s!)
  • I switched all my plastic for glass ( almost its kinda a slow process, but I prefer glass to plastic) but my water bottle is glass and so is my main set of Tupperware I¬†use for lunch and storing food
  • I make alot of Fresh squeezed juice ( my juicer was only $30 at aldi’s so i just use a cheap one and it works) if you have the money def invest in a good one i unfortunately don’t have the budget for a nice one at the moment
  • I filter my drinking water and shower water (I take mostly¬†showers and all tap water where I live is chlorinated and fluoridated not to mention what else is lurking around in our tap water, also most bottled water is tap water, check out the Movie¬†Tapped) shower filter was only around $30 on amazon and the Berkey filter I¬†bought from the actual manufacturer cost a good $250 but well worth the investment (or you can DIY and make your own water filter system)
  • I aim for an 80/20 diet (80% Raw/ 20% cooked)

** These lifestyle changes took me 2 years to fully convert this way so it can definitely be a process!

Words I live by:

Every time you Eat or Drink you are either Feeding Disease or Fighting It!
